In the southern part of Belgium, the Abbey of St. Remy was founded in 1230 and the monks began to brew beer in 1595.  The beautiful small brewery in the abbey, Rochefort Trappistes, is one of only seven Trappist breweries in teh world.  They make full-bodied, deeply flavored dark ales that are bottle conditioned.  This brewery is among the world's most highly-respected with beverages consumed around the world by beer enthusiasts.

Rochefort is an authentic Trappist beer brewed within a Trappist monastery under the control and responsibility of the monastic community. Only seven beers in Belgium can carry the appellation "Trappist". Don't be fooled by impostors that state "Trappist Style".
